Do I need a swim spa bath pool permit and fence?
Most swimming spas need a permit and you will also need a fence (or “safety barrier”). If your swim hot tub is above ground however you may be able to limit the fencing to the step area only.
Obtaining permits is best handled by an independent certifier but if you’ve got the time and can accept possible delays you can deal directly through your local council.
Does the outdoor swim spa meet Australian standards?
Many cheap swim hot tubs that sold via the internet are being imported without the necessary Australian approvals, leaving you with a backyard spa bath than cannot be legally repaired by any serviceperson (assuming you can get replacement parts).
You should insist that the outdoor hot tub retailer shows you a valid copy of the approval or you will end up with a swimming hot tub that can’t even be used.
You should also check that the spa bath has a metal compliance plate with an approval number on it.
